Neos is Seeking a UI/UX Designer for a contract role for with our client in Austin, TX.

***HYBRID - ONLY CANDIDATES CURRENTLY RESIDING IN THE AUSTIN AREA WILL BE CONSIDERED***

Position will be 2 days (Wednesdays and Fridays) remote with 3 days (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) required to be onsite at 4601 W Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78751.

Job Description
The UI/UX Designer understands business objectives and problems, identifies alternative solutions, and performs studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives. Responsibilities include analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing computer systems. The designer confers with personnel of organizational units to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and determine specific input and output requirements, such as forms of data input, data summarization, and report formats. They write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs. They also review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility of requested changes.

The role of UI/UX Designers is central to improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of the HHSC eligibility systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Demonstrate proven UX design experience, including an extensive portfolio covering user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high fidelity), and usability testing.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
  • Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure design decisions align with business objectives.
  • Employ a comprehensive suite of tools, including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar, while implementing usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
  • Design user interfaces for AI/ML systems with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
  • Understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in government services, healthcare, or finance.
  • Present complex data and AI insights in clear, concise, and understandable visual formats.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles with empathy and commitment to user needs.
  • Communicate effectively with excellent verbal and written skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
  • Apply knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
  • (Bonus) Experience with eligibility determination systems or other rule-based, data-intensive applications.


Candidate Skills and Qualifications

  • 11 years (Required): Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
  • 11 years (Required): Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
  • 10 years (Required): Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
  • 10 years (Required): Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
  • 5 years (Preferred): Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
  • 3 years (Preferred): Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • 3 years (Preferred): Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field (equivalent experience may be substituted).
  • 3 years (Preferred): Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work efforts.
