Your Contribution

As a Materials Engineer - Metallurgy reporting to the Head of Labs-Lockport, you will be responsible to develop, test, and select new materials for use in products. Provide materials laboratory metallurgical analysis and mechanical test services to North American product engineering, plant quality, and production.

The Materials Engineer will oversee technician workflow, interface with customers, and perform key material and mechanical test analysis. This position responsibility is focused on material selection field durability performance.

This role is responsible to:
  • Receives and completes material and part analysis requests from company business units.
  • Performs post corrosion analysis of heat exchangers from internal validation corrosion test cabinets and field returns.
  • Performs mechanical property testing of metallic materials, and non-metallic materials, and parts.
  • Issues material analysis reports to customers.
  • Develops new laboratory analysis methods and associated Laboratory work instructions.
  • Works with product engineering staff for technical knowledge assistance on company products and material science staff on analysis methods.
  • Directs laboratory technician staff.
  • Interfaces with customers both internally and externally.
  • Leverages company and customer specifications as well as international standards.
  • Technical resource for product engineering staff and Technical Centers.
  • Participates in Laboratory internal and external audits.
  • Follows site and Laboratory health and safety procedures.

Your Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum of 5-years professional work experience within a laboratory environment (non-academic)
  • specific knowledge of aluminum heat exchanger materials and their associated corrosion science, as well as stainless-steel materials including welding
  • Team lead experience in a professional laboratory environment
