Job Overview We are looking for a highly experienced & strategic Senior Database Systems Expert with deep expertise in DB2 & IMS / DB to oversee the design, optimization, & maintenance of critical mainframe database environments. This role demands strong communication skills to engage with both technical experts & business stakeholders, & the ability to provide leadership as a senior SME on cross - functional projects.
You will work closely with infrastructure, development, & architecture teams, including managed service providers, to ensure robust, secure, & high-performing database systems. This role includes direct accountability for problem-solving, performance tuning, & driving best practices in backup & disaster recovery strategies. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, & maintain scalable database solutions leveraging DB2, IMS/DB, & data sharing architectures.
Optimize database performance through proactive monitoring, tuning, & capacity planning to ensure high availability & reliability.
Act as a senior SME, working with internal teams & service providers to diagnose & resolve database - related issues. Collaborate with infrastructure, development, & business teams to gather requirements & provide database solutions that align with business goals.
Lead the development & implementation of backup & disaster recovery strategies to protect critical data & support business continuity.
Enforce database security standards, ensuring regulatory compliance & data protection.
Create & maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, policies, & operational procedures.
Mentor junior team members & provide technical leadership across the organization.
Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, & best practices in database systems & data sharing. Required Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 8 years of experience working with DB2 & IMS/DB systems as a Database Systems Programmer, Systems Engineer, or Systems Administrator.
Strong hands - on expertise in DB2 & IMS/DB subsystem/region configuration, administration, & security management.
Experience supporting environments with managed service providers & coordinating with offshore support teams.
Deep understanding of mainframe database performance tuning & monitoring using tools like Omegamon & SYSView.
Solid experience in backup, recovery, & disaster recovery planning & execution.
Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve complex database issues efficiently.
Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical stakeholders & business leaders effectively.
Proven ability to lead technical initiatives & mentor junior staff.
Certifications in DB2 or IMS / DB are a strong plus. Must - Have Skills Expert - level experience maintaining DB2 & IMS/DB mainframe database systems.
Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively engage experts, stakeholders, & infrastructure teams.
Proven leadership as a senior SME, accountable for issue resolution & system optimization.
