Volt is immediately hiring EHS Specialist in Amityville, NY
Roles and Responsibilities:
- This role is to oversee and execute the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability programs for all three North Amityville locations. The role will report to the Airborne Combat Systems EHS&S Sector Director with dotted-line responsibility to the site Operations Director. The role is completely onsite and not eligible for remote work.
- Implement all health and safety programs, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, electrical safety, machine guarding, chemical safety, lockout, overhead hoists, lab safety, powered industrial trucks, fire safety, PPE, emergency preparedness, confined spaces, walking/working surfaces, first aid/CPR/AED, and OSHA records management.
- Implement all environmental programs, including LQG hazardous waste management, wastewater management, stormwater management, air emissions management, and Suffolk County Article 12 requirements.
- Implement all sustainability initiatives and coordinate data collection from all projects in which there are sustainability improvement opportunities. Ensure all monthly and quarterly data reporting requirements are met prior to due dates. Work diligently to identify new sustainability improvements for the site to meet Site, Sector, and Segment goals.
- Manage all interactions with EHS-related regulatory agencies during inspections, inquiries, and other events. Coordinate all communications between regulatory agencies and Legal for any regulatory issues that arise.
- Control of all explosive materials used at the site in accordance with the DoD Safety requirements of DoD 4145.26-M, DCSA Security requirements of DoD 5100.76-M, DoD Transportation requirements of DoD 4500.9-R, and ATF requirements of 27 CFR 555.
- he EHS Sr. Specialist will be responsible for program oversight at all three North Amityville locations that comprise the site. The site has substantive EHS&S risks, unique contractual requirements, and complex regulatory requirements, including DoD and ATF explosives safety and security responsibilities, environmental air permitting obligations, Suffolk County NY permitting and reporting requirements, wastewater treatment, large quantity hazardous waste generation requirements, and onsite hazardous waste recycling.
Minimum Skills
- 4-year, bachelor s degree in a Field related to EHS & S, Substantive and relative work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS&S experience in roles of increasing responsibility and leadership.
- Must be eligible to obtain a secret-level security clearance.
- Must obtain an ATF Responsible Person Clearance under the site s Federal Explosives License.
- Must obtain NY State Department of Labor Explosives License.
- Ability to read and develop a solid understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Ability to assess potential risk and develop effective mitigations.
- Effective communication skills and ability to engage employees in support of a proactive safety culture.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize work effectively.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to learn new software as needed.
This is a 12 Month full time Contract or Contract to hire opportunity.
Pay Range: $55- $64.98 per hour.
