Now Hiring: Field Technician I - Cincinnati, OH

Apex Systems is seeking a Field Technician I for a position based in the Cincinnati, Ohio market. This is an entry-level role that requires the candidate to have their own vehicle and a basic set of tools.
  • Pay Rate: $22.08/hour
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Description
  • Uses hand tools, testing instruments, and computerized devices for installation and troubleshooting.
  • Diagnoses network or equipment issues under pressure and provides timely solutions.
  • Communicates effectively with customers and team members.
  • Ensures accuracy in installations, repairs, and documentation to prevent service interruptions and compliance issues.
  • Understands workplace hazards and follows safety protocols to protect self and others.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for asset management, including processing deliveries, replenishing consumables, and coordinating shipping and receiving of materials.
  • Maintains tools, test sets, and electronic equipment such as fiber optic transmission gear, Lightwave multiplexing equipment, AC/DC power systems.
  • Assists in the installation, provisioning, testing, and maintenance of DS0 through OC192 services.
  • May install and test transmission/switching equipment.
  • Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective modules, tracks spares, and ensures timely repairs.
  • Monitors and locates routes, assists in service restoration, and proactively addresses potential network issues.
  • Learns and uses all required systems and applications to perform job functions effectively.
  • Updates installation records, logs detailed information on trouble tickets, and provides status reports to management.
  • Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance on network and critical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
  • Supports installation, change, decommissioning, and testing of Next Generation technologies such as Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic Transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers.
  • May install and test customer premise equipment (CPE) and deliver end-user services.
  • Uses industry-standard tools to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.
  • Performs limited AC power work and installs DC power systems, including tertiary and BDCBB components.
  • Regularly updates inventory records, completes system transactions, logs time, and responds to information requests and escalations.
  • Evaluates performance using provided tools and reports, and-with managerial support-identifies areas for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
