Azure Platform Service Lead

Azure Platform Service Lead is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing clients public cloud platform for Azure hyper scaler. Enables clients business teams to connect the dots and evolve cloud capabilities over time. Focuses on cloud native platform developments and implementations that can support expansion. Interfaces extensively with business teams and supports cloud adoption. Stays current with emerging cloud technology trends and driving innovation in a collaborative, federated environment.

Key Responsibilities



  • As the Azure Service Lead, responsible for enablement, architecture, security, cost, reliability, and performance efficiency, and support of Azure platform and services.

  • Internal platform and service provider for multiple global business units who own their workloads.


Enablement



  • Regularly interface with business teams, other architects, and Hyper Scaler teams to understand requirements, offer tactical and strategic guidance, and empower with cloud platform.

  • Capture and share cloud knowledge within business teams and across the company.

  • Known as the subject matter expert for Azure hyperscaler.

  • Plan and coordinate platform delivery and dependencies across multiple business teams.


Security



  • Realize security guardrails per Security team mandated policies and benchmarks.

  • Offer transparency on guardrail compliance for stakeholders.

  • Implement least privileges model for public cloud.


Reliability



  • Offer cloud platform that is resilient across multiple regions.

  • Implement real-time network monitoring and alerting.

  • Offer centralized logging for cloud platform.


Cost



  • Ensure that 100% of monthly public cloud bills are reconciled and allocated.

  • Improve transparency with tagging of significant cost causing cloud services.

  • In partnership with business teams, achieve cost savings via purchase of savings plans.


Performance Efficiency



  • Offer cloud platform globally in minutes.

  • Promote cloud native serverless architectures.

  • Continually reduce technology debt by upgrading tech stack to supported versions.


Operational Excellence



  • Automate the cloud platform and all cloud team-initiated changes/operations as code.

  • Refine operations procedures frequently (e.g., game days).

  • Drive improvement through lessons learned from all operational events and failures.


Required Technical Skills
Cloud Landing Zone
a. Demonstrated ability in designing, building, and automating Azure landing zones for efficient cloud deployments.
b. Proven expertise in FinOps practices, including resource tagging, cost allocation, and cloud financial management.
c. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of various cloud application architectures, contributing to the development of cloud platform services that support a wide range of applications.

Cloud Security Engineering
a. Implement advanced security and compliance preventive/remediation guardrails/controls on Azure such as CIS Azure Foundations, Azure Security Center, and Azure Policy.
b. Proficiency in designing and implementing Azure policies for the comprehensive governance of security, compliance, cost, and operations.

Cloud Network Engineering
a. Expertise in Azure hub-spoke network architectures including VNET Hub /VWAN and Virtual Network Gateways for ExpressRoute and VPNs.
b. Experience with DNS zone setup, management, and the configuration of DNS resolvers.
c. In-depth understanding of Azure Networking Services, including Azure ExpressRoute, BGP, UDRs, SD-WAN, Azure Route Services (ARS)
d. Experience in creating/updating Azure Firewall rules via automation.

Cloud Automation
a. Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) projects. Nice to have experience with HashiCorp Terraform Cloud.
b. Experience in Azure DevOps pipelines or equivalent for platform automation.
c. Past full-time development experience in at least one of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, or Java.
d. Hands-on experience with developing Azure Functions and integrating using REST APIs for Azure platform workflow automation.

Education Requirements



  • 4 Year / bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience

    Certification, Licenses, and Designations
    1. Azure Expert level certifications
    2. HashiCorp Terraform

    Experience
    3 Years - Relevant and progressive experience with Azure hyperscaler technology
    6 Years - Preferably 10 or more years in the general IT industry
    2 Years - Experience in designing and developing integrated solutions involving process, data, and technology

    Other

  • Experienced in creating architectural diagrams.

  • Technical leadership skills including leading a team of onshore/offshore Azure Cloud and Automation Engineers.

  • Experience with Lean Agile principles and practices, SDLC processes and deliverables

  • Optimization of work processes.

  • Knows the most effective and efficient methods to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Must be an exceptional communicator and able to make connections across the organization in multiple locations (virtual and in-person).

This person will be an individual contributor but the lead for the Azure Platform. This is where all of their internal customers come to their "landing zone" so this person will be focused on the Cloud Network, Security, Automation (they use Terraforms). Not looking for a Network person and not looking for someone with the Cisco certifications - if it interacts with data centers or anything they will bring in a Network team - but they need someone that has a fullstack background with the Azure understanding and is strong on the automation side. It's an individual contributor role but they will lead some offshore resources. They are not coming in and starting from scratch some is built and organized
