Role: Senior Control Algorithms Tester

Duration: 12+ Months

Location: Plymouth, MN (Onsite Role)

Job Description-

Team & Environment
  • Dedicated test team (not shared resources)
  • Current team: 8 test engineers (not yet specialized in MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Agile/Scrum development methodology
  • Close collaboration with developers and algorithm engineers
  • Device operation training provided

Technical Requirements

Must-Have Skills

  • Proficiency in:
    • MATLAB
    • Simulink
    • Python
  • Experience with:
    • Formal, safety-critical testing (preferably in medical devices or regulated industries)
    • Defect tracking using JIRA
    • Writing test cases independently

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with MicroFocus ALM (still in use alongside JIRA)
  • Exposure to automated testing (team is transitioning from manual to automated)
  • Background in Control Systems or related engineering discipline
  • Currently pursuing a master s degree (preferred but not required)

Summary:
As a Senior Control Algorithms Tester with our R&D team, you'll be responsible for testing and verifying MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow-based control algorithms used in the development of devices to ensure they meet functional, safety, and regulatory requirements. You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to create the safest product possible.

With 3+ years of experience in algorithm testing in a regulated industry, and a passion for patient care and safety, you're the perfect candidate to fill this vital role. You'll use your analytical skills and passion for quality to make sure that our solutions safely work to save patient lives, and your ability to test thoroughly and collaborate with developers will be essential to our success.
Responsibilities:
  • Developing critical care tests on our state-of-the-art Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy PrisMax device within an Agile (Scrum) framework
  • Working with a real-time embedded software system utilizing Green Hills Integrity OS within a complex multi-therapy electro-mechanical device/platform
  • Developing test protocols and thoroughly executing software tests including but not limited to scripted protocol execution, ad hoc testing, and exploratory testing
  • Creating and updating tests in MicroFocus ALM and performing peer reviews
  • Estimating work, writing test documentation, and investigating high-priority field issues
  • Collaborating with architects, developers, other testers, systems engineers, and other cross-functional personnel to prove and deliver the safest solution possible

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Computer Science or related field with 3+ years of experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in testing software or algorithms in a regulated industry.
  • Process-oriented attitude and proficiency working within an Agile development environment.
  • Experience using Simulink Real-Time, Simulink Test and Requirements Toolbox, MATLAB, Stateflow and Embedded Code. Familiarity with C/C++/MATLAB script.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and documentation skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate defects, test methodologies and progress, and to share what you have learned with your peers.
