BBN Technologies solves challenging problems of high importance to our customers in the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community and Industry by rapidly prototyping systems for sensing complex physical phenomena, correlating them to events of interest, and producing high-value, actionable information from the sensed data. Our team specializes in developing next-generation sensor system technologies by combining a fundamental understanding of the underlying EM physics including complex electromagnetic interactions and signatures, and propagation phenomenology, with a deep expertise in analysis, statistical signal processing, optimization, and machine learning We are currently searching for a highly qualified RF Signal Processing Research Scientist to join our team in Arlington, VA or Columbia, MD (this position is 100% remote). Desirable candidates will have experience deriving and implementing research-grade algorithms and applying these to data collected from real sensors. Qualified candidates will have academic or professional experience in several of the areas listed below.

What You Will Do

  • Lead our small, focused team to design, develop, implement, and test new applications and prototype systems.
  • Collaborate across a broader team of signal processing algorithm developers, hardware designers, and software implementation experts to plan out and achieve program goals
  • Look across current and future program needs to estimate high-level software development tasking
  • Plan detailed project tasks and define assignments for less senior professionals, and provide supervision
  • Lead strategic objectives to synergize the software baselines across multiple related programs
  • Motivate a collaborative work environment across geographic locations.
  • Participate in laboratory and field tests to collect and analyze data, test new capabilities, and perform demonstrations
  • Communicate technical foundations of applications, algorithms, and systems through reports and presentations
  • Contribute to technical marketing activities to existing and potential customers
  • Contribute to technical proposal development

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Active Top Secret security clearance
  • BS with 10+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field or MS with 7+ years of relevant experience or PhD plus 5 years experience
  • Experience supervising 3-5 software engineers
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python/MATLAB
  • Proficiency with digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Proficiency with embedded development and application
  • Proficiency conducting integration and test of software onto novel hardware in support of field testing
  • Independently executes responsibilities with minimal review or supervision
  • Takes proactive action to anticipate, understand, and meet customer needs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Position will require overnight travel

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience applying advanced methods, theories, and R&D techniques to solve difficult problems.
  • Skillset to tackle research challenges proactively with minimal supervision and periodic check-ins with team leads.
  • Experience documenting plans and scientific findings with opportunities to present to government customers.
  • TS//SCI clearance
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Software-defined radio
  • Signal processing
  • Real-time embedded software/firmware development
  • Embedded Linux
  • ARM processors and system on a chip (SoC) systems
  • Software development lifecycle
  • Statistical modeling and/or deep learning
  • FPGA development using Verilog or VHDL

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
