SAP Manufacturing Execution (MES) Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Aerospace & Defense

Remote / Onsite: Remote option (Occasionally onsite for customer workshop)

Contract / Fulltime: Fulltime with Quantum Integrators

Client is in Bay area, California. So, local or west coast resource will be a plus.

Job Summary

We're looking for minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in SAP ECC/S/4HANA and SAP Manufacturing solutions, including SAP ME and SAP MII.Expert to lead a critical project for a major aerospace and defense contractor. This initiative aims to replace outdated, paper-based processes with a comprehensive MES solution, integrating with a recently implemented SAP S/4HANA system. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the defense industry, a proven track record of MES implementations, and the ability to guide the client through vendor evaluation and full-scale system implementation to ensure compliance and improve operational efficiency

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of SAP MES/ME/MII implementation projects, including business process analysis, requirement gathering, solution design, configuration, and go-live support.
  • Act as a trusted technical liaison for business stakeholders, translating complex manufacturing needs and user stories into functional and technical specifications.
  • Configure and optimize SAP ME/MII modules to meet specific defense manufacturing requirements
  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot complex integrations between SAP Manufacturing solutions and other SAP components (S/4HANA, PP-PI, SD, MM, WM, QM) , SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), and external systems (e.g., ATTP, PLC, HMI, and SCADA).
  • Develop and debug custom solutions and applications using SAP MII, UI5, HTML5, JavaScript, and SQL.
  • Lead and coordinate all testing activities, from unit testing to user acceptance testing (UAT) across various impacted systems and sites.
  • Strong knowledge of integrations (ALE EDI IDOCs, RFCs) and custom development with technologies such as HTML5, XML, and JavaScript.
  • Create comprehensive documentation, including business process documents and functional specifications, ensuring knowledge transfer to both IT teams and end-users.
  • Provide training and post-go-live support to ensure smooth system adoption and efficient use of new functionalities.
  • Stay updated with the latest SAP Manufacturing innovations and industry trends to provide recommendations for continuous improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing execution systems, with a strong focus on SAP MES/ME and SAP MII.
  • Proven experience in the aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Expertise in multiple MES platforms, with demonstrated experience in vendor evaluation and comparison beyond just SAP solutions (e.g. Rockwell Software, Advaris, Wonderware, VIVA, etc.).
  • Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA and its integration with MES platforms, including experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).
  • Experience in serialized component tracking and other key government and defense compliance requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
