Role: IT Firewall Administrator

Location: Greater Vancouver, BC (Onsite)

Contract Duration: 2-year term

Sector: Healthcare Infrastructure (Project Services)

Role Overview

As part of the Project Services team, you will deliver critical security and infrastructure projects for the Health Authorities of British Columbia. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of security controls across complex on-premises data centers and hybrid cloud environments (Azure/AWS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Security Implementation: Configure and maintain rules for Firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco), Proxies, VPNs, WAFs, and IDS/IPS systems.

  • Cloud & Hybrid Networking: Manage cloud-native security including Azure NSGs/ASGs and AWS Security Groups; support secure connectivity for on-prem to cloud migrations.

  • Micro-segmentation: Deploy and manage VMware NSX Distributed Firewall (DFW) to enforce east-west traffic controls and policy-based security.

  • Operations & Governance: Lead troubleshooting efforts, manage PKI/certificate integration, and execute production change requests.

  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous project documentation and provide knowledge transfer to operational teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.

  • Experience: 4+ years of recent experience supporting firewalls, VPNs, Active Directory, and DNS within a large-scale, multi-data center enterprise.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Firewalls: Hands-on mastery of Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Cisco.

    • Virtualization: Proven experience with VMware NSX (Micro-segmentation).

    • Cloud: Proficiency in Azure and AWS security controls.

    • Bonus: Experience with F5 LTM or other load balancers.

  • Certifications: Preference for CCNA, Fortinet NSE, or PCNSE.

Core Competencies

  • Expertise in security zoning, rule design, and SSL inspection (PKI).

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on detail and compliance.

  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with internal stakeholders and vendors
