Job Description

We are seeking an experienced IBM MQ Mainframe Administrator to support, maintain, and optimize our enterprise messaging infrastructure on z/OS. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM MQ administration, mainframe operations, and enterprise integration, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performance message delivery across critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and upgrade IBM MQ queue managers and related components on z/OS.
  • Manage MQ objects including queues, channels, listeners, and process definitions.
  • Monitor MQ performance, availability, and message flows; proactively address issues and bottlenecks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve MQ connectivity, message delivery, and operational problems.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for MQ environments.
  • Administer security policies, RACF profiles, and access controls for MQ resources.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and network teams for integration and support.
  • Maintain and document MQ configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions.
  • Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Provide on-call support and participate in change management and incident response processes.
  • Support MQ upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning activities.
  • Conduct performance tuning and recommend improvements for reliability and scalability.

Requirements:

  • 8 years of hands-on experience with IBM MQ administration on z/OS.
  • Strong knowledge of z/OS operating system, JCL, SMP/E, and mainframe utilities.
  • Experience with MQ concepts: queue managers, queues, channels, logs, and clustering.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting MQ and TCP/IP network issues.
  • Familiarity with RACF or equivalent mainframe security tools.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and performance analysis for MQ.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

  • Strategic thinking able to identify a vision along with the plans, which need to be implemented to meet the end goal, evaluating situations, decisions, and issues in the short, medium, and long term
  • Analytical thinking - able to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts explore and evaluate them systematically
  • Collaborate with various areas of the organization including business partners, product owners, architecture, security mavens, and IT engineering teams to understand business requirements and design specifications
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies, design principles, and development frameworks to ensure software solutions remain current, fresh, and future proof
  • Provide technical guidance in software design and development activities
  • Mentoring junior members of the team to develop their technical skills
  • Review Designs and Code and Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Provide technical leadership direction, determining and developing approac hes to solutions by coordinating multiple resources to solve complex problems.
