Role Purpose
The HPC Storage Engineering team manages over 200 petabytes of high-performance, scalable storage. This platform is critical to supporting the demanding research workloads of our teams.
As a Contract HPC Storage Engineer, you will work closely with global colleagues to design, deploy, optimize, and troubleshoot workflows in collaboration with Researchers, Software Engineers, the Networks team, and external vendors such as Dell, VAST, HPE, and Rubrik.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, manage, and maintain high-performance and/or clustered filesystems at scale.
- Optimize and troubleshoot storage workflows in collaboration with Researchers and Software Engineers.
- Work with diverse storage technologies (file, block, object) and understand their architectural differences.
- Operate and maintain scale-out storage solutions, such as Vast Data and Isilon/PowerScale.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Manage and resolve issues using JIRA, ensuring timely ticket closure.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of supportable, efficient, and scalable storage environments.
- Participate in the evaluation of emerging storage technologies and approaches.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience with large-scale high-performance or clustered filesystem deployments.
- Strong understanding of file, block, and object storage technologies.
- Hands-on experience with scale-out storage architectures (Vast Data, Isilon/PowerScale).
- Proficiency in managing workflows through JIRA or similar ticketing systems.
- Solid problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and a proactive work ethic.
- Passion for technology and hardware.
- Experience with Python and/or DevOps tools and practices.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
