Job Summary
The Cyber Engineer plays a pivotal role in the secure administration and configuration of systems within a high-security research computing environment. Primary responsibilities include system oversight, security compliance, and vulnerability remediation. This position is vital to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IT infrastructure across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and securely configure various operating system distributions
Provide operational support for systems, servers, and hardware using a stakeholder ticketing system
Oversee installation and configuration of systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Create and maintain system, security, and procedural documentation
Identify, respond to, and remediate system and network security vulnerabilities
Test and support the integration of emerging technologies with a focus on security and compliance
Conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies
Communicate security concepts and technology solutions to diverse stakeholders
Implement policies, procedures, and configurations while recommending improvements
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field preferred
Minimum of 5 years of systems administration or cybersecurity experience, preferably in a secure research or governmental environment
Special Requirements
Current, fully adjudicated TOP SECRET (Tier 5) clearance
Fully adjudicated counterintelligence polygraph
Demonstrated ability to manage secure system baselines and configurations
Experience with Centrify or other privileged access management tools
Active and maintainable information security certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, or CySA+)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of NIST/ISO standards and DoD compliance requirements (800-171/53, CMMC)
Proficiency in systems integration within heterogeneous network environments
Experience in secure Windows and Linux system administration
Familiarity with VMware (vRealize, vSphere, NSX, SRM) and enterprise storage platforms (ECS, Unity, Nimble, PowerStore)
Ability to automate system management (SCCM, Puppet/Foreman, Redhat Satellite)
Experience with LDAP authentication and Active Directory/Group Policy
Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
