Senior Engineer Modeling & Simulation (Crystal Plasticity) Overview
We re looking for an experienced Senior Engineer specializing in modeling and simulation to advance next-generation materials and manufacturing technologies. This position plays a key role in developing and applying computational tools to accelerate materials innovation, enabling breakthroughs in design, processing, and performance.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in materials modeling with strong programming and simulation experience. You ll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to design, automate, and refine digital tools that predict and optimize material behavior from the atomic to the structural scale.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute application-driven simulations to support internal and collaborative R&D programs within defined scope, schedule, and budget.
- Conceive and lead new modeling initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance simulation capabilities across multiple scales (atomistic through continuum).
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate progress and outcomes to stakeholders and partners.
- Contribute to program development activities, including white papers, research proposals, and funding submissions.
- Collaborate with ecosystem partners and cross-functional teams to integrate and validate modeling tools within broader engineering workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor s, Master s, or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline, plus 3 5 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with atomistic-scale simulations (e.g., molecular dynamics) and/or micro-to-macro material models (e.g., crystal plasticity) for metals, ceramics, or composites.
- Familiarity with modeling physical phenomena such as mechanical property prediction, diffusion, or interfacial behavior.
- Proficiency in scientific programming using Python and/or C++, and experience working in collaborative software development environments with version control and CI/CD tools.
- Experience building or integrating APIs and modeling frameworks to streamline workflows.
- Exposure to CAE tool integration, GUI design, data exchange (I/O), or hardware interfacing is advantageous.
- Knowledge of electronic structure modeling (e.g., density functional theory) and/or machine learning techniques for materials property prediction is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in initiating and delivering R&D projects within industrial or academic settings.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to both experts and non-specialists.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You re someone who thrives in a project-driven environment, enjoys tackling complex technical challenges, and can translate scientific insight into practical, scalable engineering solutions. You ll bring curiosity, creativity, and collaboration to every aspect of your work.
