Position: Infrastructure Architect

Location: Hybrid (Chicago/Springfield)

Duration: Full-time/Long Term Contract With potential extension.

Summary:

  • As an Infrastructure Architect at Zion Cloud Solutions , you will be responsible for architecture, design and deployment of infrastructure solutions for our customer DoIT (Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology) with a focus on compute, storage, and cloud technologies. Your expertise will guide the architectural decisions to maintain scalable, reliable, and secure IT infrastructure. You will collaborate with cross-functional agencies and teams to support the DoIT s technology infrastructure needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement enterprise-class infrastructure solutions focusing on compute (servers, virtualization), storage (SAN/NAS, backups), and cloud services (IaaS, PaaS).
  • Lead the design of applications and data to cloud environments, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure systems and propose enhancements to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation and standards.
  • Serve as a technical expert in infrastructure planning meetings and provide guidance on best practices in infrastructure management.
  • Collaborate with IT security teams to implement robust security frameworks for protecting data and managing vulnerabilities in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Monitor industry trends and technology advancements, recommending adoption of new technologies where beneficial.
  • Manage vendor relationships to negotiate and procure hardware and software solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior engineers and other team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in IT infrastructure roles with a strong focus on compute, storage, and cloud technologies.
  • Proven experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
  • In-depth knowledge of storage architectures including SAN, NAS, and object storage, as well as data backup and recovery solutions.
  • Expertise in designing and deploying solutions in public, private, and hybrid cloud environments using providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, subnetting, routing, firewall configurations).
  • Familiarity with IT security best practices and data protection laws.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications in cloud technologies (Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified Architect).

Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
