Material Testing and Analysis Technician

Job Summary:
Seeking a contract worker to assist in mechanical testing, failure analysis, imaging of samples, as well as general laboratory tasks and assistance with maintaining lab equipment. The work will be centered around testing and analyzing brittle materials. This position is to support a team of materials engineers in improving the reliability and performance of our products, throughout the company. Typical tasks would include performing mechanical tests (drop testing, Instron, etc), analyzing tested samples, and reporting of findings using materials characterization equipment. Additional responsibilities will include mechanical design of test fixtures, maintaining good working lab conditions and facilitating new equipment instillation. Training and detailed instruction will be provided for all specific tasks or measurements required.

Responsibilities:
- Mechanical testing using an Instron
- Operation of a drop tower and high-speed video cameras
- Imaging and characterization of test samples
- Simple disassembly of products as required for sample characterization
- Failure analysis / fractography of brittle materials
- SEM imaging and composition characterization
- Lab management / upkeep

Required Skills:
- Experience with mechanical testing (Instron, drop testing)
- Experience with laboratory characterization
- Familiarity with basic materials science concepts
- Experience with fixture design in CAD
- Comfortable having multiple assignments/tasks at all times
- Ability to record and report data cleanly to many engineers
- Excellent record keeping

Desired Skills:
- Experience operating an SEM
- Experience operating high-speed video
- Experience with fractography / failure analysis
- Experience with any materials characterization techniques
- Experience with Wrike, Slack
