Resident Network Engineer
The Resident Engineer would report to the Service Delivery Manager. This highly technical role provides post-sales, on-site, and potentially on-call support of Juniper Networks products for one of the country's largest Cable Service Providers. The ideal candidate for this role must have a detailed understanding of protocols used for IP-based service provider networks and be able to demonstrate technical expertise in the configuration, troubleshooting and operation of IP-based routers and including hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. It requires excellent customer interface skills, including both written and verbal.
Location: Onsite in either Seattle or Kansas City

Maximum Salary:$189,244.00
The pay range for this position is expected to be between $131,648.00 and $189,244.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.

Responsibilities
- Works closely with customer and Juniper Technical Assistance Centre to resolve issues.
- Acts as a customer technical liaison for Juniper Networks support and development teams.
- Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems of a diverse scope, where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Assists in the development and testing of new features and services/ functionality.
- Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Providing informal workshops to transfer knowledge to engineering staff/customers
- Evaluating technical specifications for interoperability
- Assist the customer to develop Network and Equipment Operating Procedures
- Providing deployment guidance to ensure that implementations are consistent with design specifications
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times in the presence of the customer
- Have expertise in Juniper Security platforms (SRX Series high-end firewalls) and working expertise with Junos operating systems
- Applying extensive industry experience to optimize network performance and proactively analyze potential enhancements
- Troubleshooting the network's design and architecture issues
Required Background Qualifications:
Candidates for this role MUST have 5+ years of experience providing implementation and technical support of networking and security products in LAN, WAN, or Internet services environments. Candidates for this role MUST be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- JUNOS CLI or other Network OS experience required
- Hardware: SRX Series high-end firewalls ( cluster and MNHA)
- Detailed technical experience in the installation and operation of security devices, and beneficial to have the same experience with IP routers and switches.
- Detailed understanding of security best practices including:
- Stateful firewall
- NAT
- ALG's
- DOS/DDOS mitigation
- IPS/IDS implementation and signature creation
- Application Level security (AppFW)
- SIEM (Arcsight or STRM preferred)
- Threat intelligence (Cloud based)
- A detailed understanding of the protocols surrounding IP service provider networks. These skills should include:
- TCP/IP fundamentals
- IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles
- Routing protocol operation (OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP, IPv6, and BGP)
- Routing policies at BGP peering points
- VPNs and the associated tunneling technologies (L2TP, MPLS, IPSEC, etc.)
- Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks JUNOS and SRX-Series products. Exposure to Juniper EX and MX-Series products a plus.
- Service Provider NOC/SOC experience (an understanding of how large networks function and their associated monitoring and performance tools).
- Strong Interpersonal skills
- The ability to function in a team environment
- Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks devices such as routers, firewalls , and switching products
- Has third-party network product operational experience as a plus
