Role: SAP Data Services Administrator (Upgrade 12.2 to 4.3)

Location: Houston, Texas

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced SAP Data Services Administrator to manage and execute the upgrade of our SAP Data Services platform from version 12.2 to 4.3. This role requires a deep understanding of SAP Data Services infrastructure, administration, system configurations, and upgrade best practices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for system preparation, repository migration, job server configuration, and ensuring a stable post-upgrade environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and execute the SAP Data Services 12.2 to 4.3 upgrade in coordination with BASIS, application, and infrastructure teams.

Perform pre-upgrade assessments, compatibility checks, and system backups.

Install and configure SAP DS 4.3 components, including:

Job Servers

Access Servers

Repository setup (Central, Local, Profiler)

Management Console

Designer and Client tools

Migrate existing repositories from 12.2 to 4.3, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.

Validate job executions and ETL processes post-upgrade in coordination with development teams.

Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues during and after the upgrade process.

Maintain documentation of all upgrade activities, system changes, and rollback plans.

Implement and test user and security configurations (LDAP, SSO, etc.) in the new environment.

Provide technical support and training to internal stakeholders post-upgrade.

Ensure system stability, compliance, and adherence to SAP best practices.

Required Skills & Experience:

12+ years of hands-on experience as an SAP Data Services Administrator.

Proven experience performing upgrades from SAP DS 12.x to 4.3 or similar.

Strong experience with:

Repository and job server management

DS Management Console

System configuration and troubleshooting

Familiarity with integration between SAP DS and other systems (SAP HANA, ECC, Oracle).

Experience with SAP Information Platform Services (IPS).

Strong understanding of ETL processes and Data Services architecture.

Ability to manage and execute upgrades in a controlled, auditable environment.

Experience with Windows and Linux OS environments and application server administration.

Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

SAP Data Services Certification (Administration or Development)

Exposure to SAP BusinessObjects, SAP BW, HANA, or cloud integrations.

Familiarity with automation tools, scripting (e.g., shell, PowerShell), or DevOps processes.

Deliverables:

Upgrade plan, risk assessment, and rollback procedures.

Fully upgraded and validated SAP DS 4.3 environment.

Documentation of system configurations and processes.

Support handover or knowledge transfer documentation.
