Entry-Level Distribution Engineer
This Opportunity
POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Distribution Engineer for our Saint Louis, MO office. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Distribution Services VIII Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges
Your Impact
In this role, you will perform distribution design and basic engineering calculations for a variety of electric utility clients. You will contribute to engineering consulting services, data collection, construction drawing creation, structural pole loading analysis, equipment sizing, and material specification for medium voltage systems. Perform distribution design and engineering tasks for electric utility clients.
Develop construction drawings and documentation.
Complete design self-checks and incorporate reviewer feedback in accordance with POWER's quality standards.
Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to ensure project success.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer literacy and the ability to learn new computer software efficiently.
Conduct basic engineering calculations and system analysis using computer modeling tools.
Candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Electrical and/or Civil Engineering or related field.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Minimum of a 2.9 GPA.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Solid foundational knowledge of civil or electrical engineering principles.
Ability to pass client-specific background screening requirements.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to manage tasks and work effectively with diverse teams.
Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills are critical to successfully completing tasks.
Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc., as well as Microsoft Excel, is beneficial.
Must be 18 or older.
Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic understanding of the power grid and distribution circuits.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain one upon hire.
Internship or co-op experience with a utility company.
Willingness to travel as needed.
