With a small but dedicated team of fewer than 20 employees, Lumitrak develops systems that help major retailers including Walmart US, maintain visibility into the equipment and supplies required to keep operations running smoothly. Their proprietary platform, Pulse, facilitates real-time coordination between internal teams and external vendors, ensuring timely fulfillment of high-volume needs such as lighting, shelving, and other critical infrastructure.
About the Role:
We re looking for a SQL DBA who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. You ll work closely with a small technical team and be the go-to person for writing efficient queries, improving database performance, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. The role leans more toward development than administration, and you ll play a key part in supporting and optimizing Lumitrak s mission-critical systems.
What You ll Be Doing
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues by analyzing slow-running queries and optimizing them often reducing execution time from 20 seconds to under a second
- Design and manage indexes, examine execution plans, and make recommendations to improve overall database performance and stability
- Perform ongoing migration from SQL Server 2019 to Azure-based databases, supporting the team as they modernize their infrastructure
- Develop and maintain complex SQL queries that power key operational systems, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and easy to maintain as business needs evolve
- Collaborate closely with a small technical team to improve internal platforms, with an emphasis on stability, speed, and clarity in communication
- Lead efforts for Azure security best practices and help ensure that new systems are designed with security in mind, even if Azure is not your primary focus
What We re Looking For
- A strong background in SQL development, with a deep understanding of how to write clean, high-performing queries and diagnose performance bottlenecks
- Someone who can confidently explain in plain language the difference between UNION and UNION ALL, and knows when each should be used
- Experience working in lean, fast-paced environments where you take ownership of your work and aren t dependent on layers of support to get things done
- Familiarity with Azure, especially around database security and access control full Azure fluency isn t required, but you should be comfortable learning and contributing in that space
- A pragmatic problem-solver who cares less about buzzwords and more about finding smart, efficient ways to make systems run better
