Job Description:

A healthcare facility in Stony Brook, NY is seeking one (1) experienced on-site IT Consultant to support the deployment, configuration, testing, and maintenance of IT equipment and mobile medical carts across multiple clinical locations. This role requires strong hands-on technical skills, particularly with Rubbermaid (Capsa), JACO, and Ergotron carts, and experience supporting Cerner EMR systems.

Scope of Work:

The consultant will assist IT staff in expanding on-premise operations by supporting a large fleet of mobile medical carts and associated technology. The position will involve collaboration with clinical and technical staff to support, maintain, and optimize endpoint computing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Repair and maintain a fleet of ~800 rolling carts across five locations: Hospital, ACP, ASC, Technology Park, and Pre-op outpatient testing.

  2. Monitor and replace cart batteries as needed.

  3. Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all carts and their locations.

  4. Manage spare parts inventory and notify IT when inventory is low (current inventory exceeds 1,000 parts).

  5. Support and help enforce hospital policies regarding secure cart locking for patient medication.

  6. Track and manage all warranty items undergoing manufacturer repairs or replacement.

  7. Perform preventative and remedial services on equipment as listed; install, test, and document equipment services.

  8. Attend meetings as a technical advisor and collaborate with the Patient Safety Committee for cart-related issues or modifications.

  9. Work with clinical and IT staff to customize carts with peripherals such as scanners and RFID readers.

  10. Support endpoint computing:

    • Configure and deploy Lenovo or similar computers and peripherals

    • Install and manage Windows 10 OS via Kase imaging appliance

    • Configure wireless settings

    • Troubleshoot Windows 10 issues

    • Manage SSO with Identity Automation (HealthCast)

    • Use BitLocker and Absolute for device security

  11. Standard work hours: Monday Friday, 8:30 AM 5:00 PM. Occasional schedule flexibility may be required.

  12. Coordinate with IT business support to obtain quotes and track parts orders for cart repairs.

  13. Comply with hospital immunization policies (documentation required prior to contract start).

  14. Minimum of 2 years of technical support experience required. Must be able to install and test all listed equipment and have Cerner EMR experience.

  15. Must be physically able to: lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, squat under desks, and use ladders.

  16. Must supply personal tools needed to assemble and repair carts and IT hardware.
