Job Summary

The Tax and Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with the preparation of financial statements, maintaining financial records, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position will work closely with other members of the finance team to support overall departmental goals and objectives.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Tax Related Activities

• Work with outside tax experts to provide all data necessary for federal returns and state returns.

• US and Canada

• Research and interpret sales tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize tax strategies.

• US and Canada

• Collaborate with internal accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate reporting of financial data for tax purposes.

• Administer Avalara and ensure accuracy and compliance with state sales tax regulations.

• Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during tax audits and inquiries.

• Assist with special tax projects and initiatives as needed.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

• Work closely with Controller and CFO for all ad-hoc reporting

• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans

• Develop and maintain financial models for various business units and projects

• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information for financial analysis

• Support the monthly financial reporting process, including variance analysis and management reporting

• Prepare ad-hoc financial analyses and reports as needed to support decision-making

Corporate Accounting

• Assist in monthly and yearly closing of financial records by performing standard journal entries.

• Perform balance sheet reconciliations monthly.

• Assist in the company audit by providing schedules and back up as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting or finance

• Must have a strong understanding and experience working with Avalara

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Public accounting experience is a plus

• Knowledge of GAAP and other accounting principles
