RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in San Jose, CA that is seeking a Board Designer - High-Speed Circuit Boards. This full-time, on-site position will support several business units and is open due to the retirement of a long-tenured team member with over 30 years of experience. The successful candidate will design and develop complex, high-speed circuit boards used in demanding data center environments, including validation test boards for high-speed ICs and SerDes transceivers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop advanced circuit boards, including test boards for validation of high-speed ICs and SerDes transceivers (100G to 800G)
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design accuracy and meet stringent quality requirements
* Perform design validation, verification, and troubleshooting of board designs
* Implement hooks, configurable signal paths, and support diverse test environments
* Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure compliance with industry standards
* Integrate microcontrollers, I2C, and mini-systems for high-speed communication between board and chip
* Address unique requirements for specialized boards (e.g., SpaceX or other advanced applications)
* Ensure signal integrity, power integrity, and robust physical design, including thermal and mechanical considerations
REQUIREMENTS:
* Master's degree or PHD in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; Bachelor's degree with 3-5+ years of relevant experience required
* Demonstrated experience in complex circuit board design and development
* Strong skills in design validation, verification, and troubleshooting
* Proficiency with PCB design tools (Cadence preferred; specific tools are less important than design expertise)
* Excellent understanding of signal integrity (cross talk, supply integrity, reflection, loss) and power integrity
* Experience with mixed signal design, calibrations, and test engineering (including writing code for board-to-chip communication)
* Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements
* Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills
* Eagerness to learn, adaptability, and openness to new approaches-ideal for candidates with a growth mindset
* Experience in the technology sector and with high-speed transmitter design is a plus
What We're Looking For:
* Candidates with advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are encouraged to apply
* Enthusiastic learners who are open to mentorship and eager to develop new skills
* Individuals with a strong sense of signal and power integrity, and a deep understanding of the physical aspects of board design
