What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our water-cooled chiller industrial products and retrofit engineering team based in New Freedom, PA. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the product team, focusing on mechanical design, testing, data analysis, and cross-functional project management. In this capacity, you will support manufacturing by representing the design team, taking ownership of design changes from initiation through implementation. Success in this position requires strong communication skills and the aptitude to clearly convey technical information to engineering colleagues, management, and product stakeholders. You are expected to continually develop your technical expertise and maintain best practices that align with organizational standards. This position is based onsite at our engineering center in New Freedom, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance or able to relocate.

What you will need
  • Deepen and apply knowledge of theories, concepts, and technical principles related to mechanical systems, with a focus on water-cooled chillers
  • Exhibit experience in mechanical design by conceptualizing, developing, and implementing innovative design solutions
  • Collaborate closely with the design and drafting, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to generate layouts and configure system architectures
  • Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and provide regular updates on project progress
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation and author detailed technical reports for internal use
  • Plan, prepare, and assist in executing test programs to validate the performance and reliability of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Analyze, design, modify, and troubleshoot mechanical sub-components and sub-systems by leveraging existing system and engineering principles

What you will need
Required

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years' of mechanical design experience
  • General knowledge/experience in refrigeration system and components (compressors, heat exchangers)
  • General knowledge/experience in piping modeling for refrigeration system and components
  • Experience working with 3D models, CAD software, and PLM (CAD database storage systems)

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $82,000 - $102,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
