Client is seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to lead the migration and upgrade of a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7) data intake server to RHEL 8 or 9. This role involves close collaboration with IT teams and end users to ensure a smooth transition with zero data loss. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Linux system administration, strong problem-solving skills, and a meticulous approach to planning and execution.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the migration/upgrade of a RHEL 7 data intake server to RHEL 8/9.
- Communicate and coordinate with IT staff and end-user personnel throughout the process.
- Investigate and document all current functions performed on the server.
- Create and implement a testing/validation procedure to confirm functionality and data integrity after the upgrade.
- Develop a detailed migration plan designed to prevent data loss, particularly with files transferred regularly from remote systems.
- Carry out the migration and execute the validation process.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator.
- Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and newer versions.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and cron job management.
- Experience with SSH, including SFTP, tunneling, and public/private key configuration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with complex system migrations or upgrades.
- Strong documentation and process design skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
