Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Machine Operator

Objective:

To ensure efficient and high-quality SMT production by effectively operating and maintaining specific equipment like the Dek screen printer and Yamaha SMT PnP machine

Responsibilities:

  • Offline Set-Up: Prepare SMT feeders and carts for the next production phase, ensuring all components are present and correct.
  • Changeover & Machine Loading: Efficiently execute changeovers, ensuring the Yamaha SMT machine is loaded with the necessary components.
  • Component Replenishment: Actively monitor and replenish SMT parts as the machine operates to avoid downtime.
  • Dek Screen Printer: Set up and operate the Dek screen printer, ensuring optimal solder paste application for each board.
  • Able to hand place components prior to reflow
  • Quality Assurance: Verify components placed at SMT are present and correct polarities.
  • Inspect SMT boards after production to check for defects and ensure they meet company quality standards.
  • Routine Maintenance: Carry out regular preventative maintenance and cleaning for all assigned equipment, ensuring longevity and optimal functioning.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production outputs, and component inventory.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and rectify SMT-related issues promptly to minimize production disruptions.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience operating high speed SMT machines such as Yamaha, Fuji, Panasonic, etc. machines and Automated screen printers such as Dek, MPM, and Speedprint.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify even minor discrepancies in part numbers or defects in the SMT process or outputs.
  • Problem-Solving: Aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving equipment or process-related issues.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and reporting to supervisors.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols related to the SMT process and equipment, MSL, ESD, .

Desired Skills:

  • Versatility: Ability and willingness to work in component preparation, wave soldering, and select soldering as needed.
  • Continuous Learning: Keenness to stay updated with the latest SMT trends, techniques, and technologies.

Additional Notes: 

Flexibility to shift between various tasks, such as component preparation, wave solder, and select solder, will be viewed favorably and is a considerable advantage for this role.
