Job Title: BI Technical Lead

Location: Iselin, NJ (Hybrid)

We need to urgently look for a senior Power BI resource with Cognos skills.

Strong Power BI, Dax, Strong in SQL and data warehousing. At least 15 years experience and managing large report migrations.

Should have Capital Markets experience and understanding of trading, risk data.

We are seeking a highly skilled BI Technical Lead or Hands on BI Architect to guide the migration of enterprise reporting solutions from IBM Cognos to Microsoft Power BI. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with BI platforms, strong leadership skills, and the ability to design, implement, and optimize modern data visualization and reporting frameworks. This role involves overseeing the full migration lifecycle, mentoring offshore team members, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end migration of reporting solutions from Cognos to Power BI, including assessment, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Perform gap analysis between Cognos and Power BI features, ensuring data integrity and functionality are preserved.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable, modern Bl solutions.
  • Define and enforce best practices for data modeling, DAX calculations, Power Query transformations, and visualization standards.
  • Optimize Power BI solutions for performance, usability, and governance, including security and access controls.
  • Provide technical leadership to Bl developers; mentor the team in Power BI and modern reporting practices.
  • Develop complex Power BI reports, Dashboards. The resource should be completely hands on. He should be able to write DAX code.
  • Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and accurate data sources for reporting.
  • Establish and maintain documentation on migration processes, data models, and report specifications.
  • the primary SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Power BI adoption within the organization.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Intelligence, with hands-on expertise in IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI. 12+ years of experience in Business
  • Proven experience leading BI migration projects from Cognos (or other legacy Bl tools) to Power BI.
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, and data modeling techniques.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Experience with data governance, security models, and enterprise-scale Bl deployments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.
