Overview:
This team at Caterpillar is focused on electric motor systems for large mining trucks. This role plays a critical part in the design and manufacturing of traction motors, generators, and retarding grids, supporting both new product initiatives and ongoing design enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design control for electric traction motors, generators, and retarding grids.
  • Execute 3D modeling, drawing creation, and component release processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across design and manufacturing.
  • Travel occasionally (up to 25%) to a manufacturing facility in Mexico to support engineering and process changes.
  • Analyze technical challenges, implement design changes, and influence manufacturing improvements.
  • Participate in field failure analyses and propose design enhancements for vibration, fatigue, and thermal performance.

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative 13-member team with integrated design and manufacturing functions.
  • Frequent interaction with a Mexico-based manufacturing site.
  • Supportive onboarding for Caterpillar-specific systems and tools

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required).
  • 3 7+ years of relevant experience; new graduates will not be considered.
  • 3d modeling experience (CREO preferred)
  • Proficiency in FEA, EM and thermal analysis, CFD, and rotating component design.
  • Familiarity with electric motor manufacturing processes (e.g., brazing, coil forming), PPAPs, PFMEAs, and PCNs.
  • Strong command of GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills; detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Spanish language skills are a strong plus.

Interview Process:

  • One 30-minute virtual interview via Microsoft Teams with the hiring manager and two team leads.
  • Informal format focused on background, technical skills, and team fit.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Brings hands-on experience in electric motor design or manufacturing.
  • Comfortable flexing between design and manufacturing responsibilities.
  • Not seeking entry-level roles and holds a formal engineering degree
