Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.

Are you passionate about design systems? Want to work on projects that touch nearly every page of Schwab.com and the Schwab native apps, used by millions of users every month?

Schwab's Everest Design System team is hiring a Senior Designer to help us evolve the system as we expand our guidance with higher level patterns, adopt new technologies, improve our education and training, and support our internal customer base of 150+ other UX Designers.

Our design system is called Everest and currently offers 50+ components across the web, iOS, and Android platforms. We have recently expanded into providing pattern level guidance, such as best practices for sorting and filtering, loading data, or announcing new features. We also provide page-level layouts and templates that help product teams start their experiences from a consistent foundation.

Some projects you might work on:
  • Refining our strategy for leveraging native mobile components from SwiftUI (iOS) and Google Material (Android) while maintaining parity with our web component offerings
  • Enhancing our core components (like lists and cards) with an eye towards simplicity and ease of use
  • Partnering with product teams to support Schwab's most complex use cases (such as options trading) with increased data density and functionality
  • Researching, testing, and implementing updates to our Figma libraries that leverage new features to improve maintainability and usability for our customers

What you have

*How to successfully apply:
  • Please include a cover letter (max 1 page) with your rsum file that discusses your interest in the role and why you believe your skills match up with our needs outlined above
  • Link to a digital portfolio of your relevant work (we'll be looking for previous design system work and native mobile projects). Make sure to include any passwords required

Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in product design environments with significant stints working on design systems and native mobile projects
  • Previous design system experience and a systems thinking mindset. This won't be your first time working in a Figma library, designing components that integrate seamlessly, or writing simple and useful documentation.
  • You've worked with both iOS and Android systems and are familiar with the platform conventions of each. You know your size classes and how to build for dynamic type.
  • A sense for the details. You proactively search out edge cases and test your designs against them. Your components handle long text strings or dark mode colors in straightforward ways.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration. You know when and how to work with a diverse cast of stakeholders, including developers, accessibility specialists, product managers, and partner design teams.
  • Effective agile methodologies. You are comfortable working in a two-week sprint cadence and have successfully refined stories with an eye towards delivering incremental value.
  • An owner's mindset. You can drive a project forward through ambiguity and prioritize your effort with an eye towards shipping value. You know how to pull in feedback from key stakeholders and use this input to increase the quality of final outcomes.
  • Strong writing skills. Our work involves a significant amount of written communication, targeting both internal and external audiences. You craft high quality documentation, Jira stories, and other artifacts that effectively balance completeness and conciseness.
  • Polished presentation abilities. You can weave stories that showcase, explain, inform, and persuade in a variety of formats and before a variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Effective relationship builder-ability to partner cross-functionally, cross-enterprise and work effectively with various levels of the organization as well as various personality types.
  • Detail-focused, organized, and able to attend to a variety of tasks throughout the day. Comfort in a project-oriented work environment, with a positive attitude and solid work ethic.
  • Prior working experience within the financial services industry.
