Key Responsibilities

Performance & Optimization

  • Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries and workloads to ensure efficient resource utilization and cost management.
  • Monitor and tune Snowflake compute resources (warehouses) for optimal performance.
  • Implement best practices for data modeling, partitioning, clustering, and indexing.

Security & Governance

  • Manage user roles, access controls, and data masking policies to ensure compliance with internal and external security standards.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec and compliance teams to enforce data governance policies.
  • Audit and monitor data access and usage patterns to detect anomalies and ensure data protection.

Database Hygiene & Maintenance

  • Maintain clean and organized schemas, tables, and views across environments.
  • Implement automated routines for purging obsolete data, archiving, and metadata management.
  • Ensure consistency and reliability of data pipelines and integrations with Snowflake.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to support data initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and data team members.
  • Stay current with Snowflake features, updates, and industry trends to continuously improve platform capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Snowflake DBA or in a similar role managing cloud-based data platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and performance tuning techniques.
  • Deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, including virtual warehouses, storage layers, and caching mechanisms.
  • Experience with data security frameworks and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and data integration frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

  • SnowPro Certification (Core or Advanced).
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., dbt, Terraform).
  • Knowledge of other cloud platforms (AWS) and their integration with Snowflake.
  • Scripting experience in Python or Shell for administrative tasks.
