Job Details

Tesla Energy Application Engineering team is looking for a Senior Network Application Engineer with a deep knowledge of networking solution development in the energy sector. As a Network Application Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of high performing, reliable and robust networking solutions for Energy Products. You will work in a cross-functional team to define hardware and software requirements for networking in Industrial Energy environments. You will lead the development, validation, and rollout of the networking solution in Tesla Energy products. You will be responsible for optimizing and tracking network reliability, cost, and performance measures. As a key technical member of the cross-functional Applications Engineering team within the Energy Projects group, you will be integral to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

Responsibilities
  • Write functional requirements/specifications documents, test procedures, and product documentation for network-related features and procedures
  • Lead network product development and work cross functionally with teams involved, including network operations, project engineering, hardware, and software teams for development of new networking products and applications, and supporting existing network products and features
  • Aligning Tesla Energy's network offering with applicable regulatory, and contractual requirements for renewable energy power plant, SCADA systems
  • Develop tools and processes for network commissioning, self-test, monitoring, performance diagnostics to streamline network deployment and operation on Energy products
  • Coordinate definition and execution of network equipment hardware testing with system testing and network operations teams
  • Perform network modeling, failure mode analysis, and future product and feature planning
  • Support productization and commercialization of Tesla Energy's networking solutions for customers

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in network products and systems including switches, routers, firewalls, transceivers, media converters, physical mediums, and other communications networking systems in electrical generation projects
  • Experience in developing industrial networking solutions with preference in products and services supporting electrical utility customers and OEMs and working knowledge of networking architecture of large complex industrial control systems and operational technologies and system security
  • Strong understanding of the OSI model, TCP/IP protocols mainly layer 2 and layer 3, network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and hands on knowledge with network redundancy and time sync protocols such as REP, MRP, HRS, PRP, and NTP, PTP, etc.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC-104, OPC, IEC 61850
  • Experience in software development including programming languages like python, golang, RUST, C/C++ plus possess automation framework experience
  • Strong understanding of virtualization platforms such as VMware Vsphere, MS Hyper-V, etc.

      $111,200 - $246,720/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
