Description
SAIC is seeking a UNIX Administrator with hands-on experience in Cohesity backup and recovery solutions to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong UNIX/Linux administration expertise, solid troubleshooting capabilities, and a background in supporting enterprise backup environments using Cohesity and Veritas.
Key Responsibilities
Manage, configure, and maintain UNIX/Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, AIX, or Solaris depending on environment).
Perform routine OS patching, kernel upgrades, system tuning, and security hardening.
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot OS-level issues across compute environments.
Manage user accounts, file systems, NFS, packages, permissions, and system services.
Support shell scripting for automation and maintenance tasks (Bash, KSH, Python optional).
Administer and support Cohesity DataProtect clusters for enterprise backup operations.
Configure protection jobs, policies, storage domains, and replication workflows.
Monitor backup performance, job failures, capacity usage, and SLA compliance.
Perform restores for files, VMs, databases, and workloads per business requests.
Troubleshoot backup/restore issues and coordinate with vendors for escalation.
Maintain documentation for backup processes, runbooks, and configuration baselines.
Provide second- and third-level support for UNIX/Linux and Cohesity platforms.
Collaborate with application teams, database teams, and storage/VMware admins for cross-functional support.
Participate in on-call rotation for critical system and backup incidents.
Maintain configuration management standards and adhere to IT security policies.
Assist in planning and executing disaster recovery (DR) tests leveraging Cohesity.
Develop automation scripts to streamline system maintenance and backup workflows.
Identify gaps in resiliency, monitoring, and performance tuning and recommend improvements.
Support migration projects, OS upgrades, Cohesity expansion, and infrastructure modernization efforts.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BS and 5+ years of hands-on UNIX/Linux system administration experience.( 4 years experience in lieu of degree)
Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust requiring U.S. Citizenship
Practical experience with Cohesity DataProtect in an enterprise environment.
Strong understanding of backup concepts (snapshots, replication, retention, RPO/RTO).
Experience with system monitoring tools (SCOM, ITOM, etc.).
Solid troubleshooting skills for OS, hardware, storage, and backup issues.
Familiarity with virtualization (VMware ESXi) preferred.
Strong scripting skills in Bash, Shell, or Python.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support production systems.
Desired:
Experience administering storage solutions (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, etc.).
Knowledge of cloud-based backup integrations (Azure).
Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management).
Experience with automation tools Azure Devops is a plus.
Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, Cohesity Certified Administrator (CCA) are desirable.
