Role : Data Modeler / Data Definition Specialist
(2-3 positions)
Overview
The Data Modeler will drive the design and implementation of centralized semantic data models to standardize business definitions and prepare the organization for advanced analytics and Databricks adoption (targeted for 2026). This role bridges data engineering, BI, and business domains to create reusable, governed data assets that power QuickSight and future AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement semantic data models aligned with business definitions
- Lead the data definition standardization effort targeting 20% completion by year-end
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate domain knowledge into documented data elements, KPIs, and hierarchies
- Work closely with report developers to ensure models support QuickSight dashboards
- Contribute to data cataloging and metadata management (e.g., Unity Catalog, AWS Glue)
- Support development of Medallion architecture for the data lake (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers)
- Participate in design sessions for future Databricks and AI/ML integrations
- Establish governance processes to maintain consistency across 20K+ data fields
Required Skills
- 4+ years experience as a Data Modeler or Data Architect in analytics environments
- Strong experience with AWS data services (Redshift, Athena, Glue, S3)
- Knowledge of Medallion architecture and Unity Catalog
- Deep understanding of semantic layer design, data dictionaries, and business metrics
- Familiarity with metadata management and data governance frameworks
- Ability to work cross-functionally between data engineers, analysts, and business teams
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting BI platforms such as QuickSight, Tableau, or Power BI
- Prior work in insurance or financial services domains
- Exposure to Databricks and data lakehouse architectures
Engagement Details
