Title : Mainframe Systems Engineer

JOb Description:

• Remote, with onsite visit in Reston, VA once per quarter
• Candidates must have strong Mainframe + CA7 + Cobol + JCL + DB2 skills and some AWS/cloud exposure.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills required.

What You ll Do (Day-to-Day Tasks):

• Monitoring & Troubleshooting
• Monitor IT systems daily (Mainframe & Distributed)
• Proactively detect system issues and fix them
• Provide Level-2 On-Call support for Mainframe issues
• Prepare RCA reports and preventive actions

Job Scheduling:

• Create, modify, and monitor jobs using CA7 and Control-M
• Handle job restarts, JCL edits, and scheduling updates
• Maintain and update scheduling calendars

Documentation & Audits:

• Maintain system manuals, procedures, and audit records
• Work on upcoming project planning with SDLC teams
• Provide support during disaster recovery exercises

Technical Support:

• Offer tech help to Ops, Service Desk, and Dev teams
• Work with vendors for issue resolution
• Mentor junior engineers and support shift leadership duties

Must-Have Skills:

• 8+ years of IT support experience
• Strong Mainframe background: Cobol, JCL, DB2, CICS
• Hands-on experience with CA7 scheduler

AWS/cloud experience (preferred)

• Base knowledge of UNIX/Windows commands
• Experience troubleshooting with tools (system dumps, trace analysis)
• Familiarity with Control-M, HMC, NDM, TSO, ISPF, etc.
• Strong communication & documentation skills
• Able to work on-call (24/7 rotation) and mentor junior staff
