Education and Experience:

Job Summary:

Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in our mission to advance pretrial justice through data analytics. You will be an integral member of our data analytics team, leveraging expert SQL skills and a profound understanding of cloud technologies, data warehousing, and big data frameworks to design, implement, and optimize data pipelines and databases.

Responsibilities:

Design and Implement Data Pipelines Lead the creation of scalable, efficient, and reproducible data pipelines that facilitate the transformation and linkage of data across various justice system databases

Data Standardization and Integration

Drive initiatives to standardize, clean, and integrate disparate datasets from justice system sources

Utilize advanced transformation techniques to merge and match datasets, improving data accessibility for analytics

SQL Mastery and Data Optimization

Develop complex SQL queries to efficiently join, filter, and aggregate data

Proactively troubleshoot and refine SQL queries and data structures, optimizing data storage and retrieval processes across multiple platforms

Data Exploration and Database Management

Identify optimal data sources and recommend data structure enhancements to meet research and analytical objectives

Innovate and manage database objects (scripts, views, functions, stored procedures), overseeing testing and troubleshooting to uphold data integrity and efficiency

Cross-Platform Scripting and Code Optimization

Adapt scripting methods for use across different database technologies

Conduct regular code reviews to identify and execute performance optimizations

Mentoring and Subject Matter Expertise

Engage, guide, motivate, and mentor team members while fostering a friendly and productive work environment

Facilitate internal and external project meetings, establish meeting agendas, and compile status reports and other project updates

Establish yourself as a subject matter expert in data engineering within the criminal justice system, continuously updating knowledge on industry trends and technologies

Technical Skills:

Candidates for the Senior Data Engineer position must possess expert level proficiency in SQL programming skills and possess expertise and experience in one or more technology within each of the following categories:

Cloud Platforms Microsoft Azure (Azure), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform)

Cloud-based Data Warehousing Platforms Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse / Azure Synapse Analytics, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery

Programming Languages In addition to expert level proficiency in SQL - Python, R, Java

Database Pipeline Solutions SQL Server Integration Services, Azure Data Factory, AWS Data Pipeline, Apache Airflow, Stitch Data, Fivetran, Google Cloud Dataflow

Big Data Processing Frameworks and Workflow Orchestration Tools Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, and Apache Airflow

Non-Technical Skills:

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment

Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Ability to lead data integration tasks effectively, plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines

Deep understanding of data integration challenges and best practices, with knowledge related to the criminal justice system preferred
