Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Data Center Technician to support and maintain our client's mission-critical data center infrastructure in Winchester, VA. This role requires an experienced, hands-on professional with a strong background in network infrastructure, hardware troubleshooting, and data center operations. The ideal candidate should have exceptional attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work independently in a 24/7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform rack & stack, cabling, hardware installation, and component replacement (CPU, HDDs, NICs, RAID batteries, etc.)
- Support staging, logistics, and deployment for site builds and refreshes
- Conduct break/fix and move/add/change tasks for server and network hardware
- Perform copper/fiber cabling and termination (Cat 6), fiber/copper testing
- Maintain inventory and asset records using DCIM tools (e.g., Nlyte)
- Escalate and troubleshoot issues affecting data center or network equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on servers, switches, PDUs, and other DC equipment
- Utilize KVM/out-of-band management tools (e.g., DSVIEW)
- Ensure compliance with data center safety standards and airflow/power containment
- Document procedures, site configurations, and rack elevations
- Interface with vendors and internal teams during incidents and planned upgrades
- Participate in on-call rotations and support outside of normal working hours
- Lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in data center or IT operations
- Strong experience with routers, switches, firewalls, PDUs, and KVM systems
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking and IP protocols
- Familiarity with NEMA and IEC power connectors, electrical standards, and AC/DC concepts
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling standards and tools
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience in fast-paced environments requiring autonomy and decision-making
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience installing/configuring Cisco routers and switches
- Knowledge of network transceivers (SFP+, QSFP+, DWDM, etc.)
- Experience using DCIM systems (e.g., Nlyte) for asset and configuration management
- Familiarity with datacenter cooling, airflow optimization, and power load management
- Certifications in data center operations, network infrastructure, or cabling standards
Note: This is an onsite role requiring physical presence at the Winchester, VA data center facility.
