Job Title: Google Cloud Platform Architect GDC Edge Architect/Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid Local or Willing to Relocate)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Google Cloud Platform Architect with expertise in Google Distributed Cloud Edge (GDC Edge), Kubernetes (GKE), and networking. This role involves designing and deploying edge-native solutions to extend cloud capabilities to on premise and remote environments. Candidates must be local to or willing to relocate to Chicago, IL for a hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement edge computing architectures using GDC Edge, Anthos, and GKE.
- Deploy GKE clusters on edge hardware and integrate with Google Cloud services.
- Architect hybrid cloud-edge solutions for low-latency and high-availability workloads.
- Configure networking and security for edge environments including VPNs, VPCs, and service mesh.
- Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams for seamless integration.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or Deployment Manager.
- Provide leadership and guidance on Google Cloud Platform-native and edge computing best practices.
- Monitor and troubleshoot edge workloads using Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, or Grafana.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with at least 2 years in Google Cloud Platform edge computing.
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Deep understanding of networking protocols and configurations (routing, VPNs, load balancing, etc.).
- Experience with Anthos, Cloud Run for Anthos, and GDC Edge hardware.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, and automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and DevSecOps methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect).
- Experience with edge deployments in retail, manufacturing, or telecom environments.
- Knowledge of data sovereignty, compliance, and offline resilience strategies.
