Summary:
Under general supervision of the Service Manager, this position performs system design, troubleshooting, programming, installations, and ongoing support of wireless communications and IT network systems. This role is responsible for optimizing, maintaining, and repairing complex two-way radio systems, wireless infrastructure, and integrated 911 communications centers. The ideal candidate will have both RF and IP networking experience to support next-generation public safety and enterprise communication systems.
Essential Functions:

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve wireless communication and network equipment issues with customers in person (on-site), over the phone, via email, and at Integrated Communications shop location.
- Perform required diagnostic and analytical tests to repair and maintain communications systems including dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, IP-based systems, routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Configure and program RF equipment, network switches, wireless access points, routers, and other IP-enabled communication devices.
- Analyze and interpret diagnostic test results to identify and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Collaborate with customers to determine urgency, scheduling, and timelines for repairs and upgrades; coordinate with vendors and internal teams to meet customer expectations.
- Perform system programming for radios and wireless/IP systems based on industry best practices and vendor guidelines.
- Install radio, wireless, and IP network equipment in mobile, base station, and dispatch environments in accordance with professional and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network diagrams, programming files, and support records.
- Follow company safety guidelines and report vehicle maintenance needs or incidents immediately.
- Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Technicians supporting public safety and first responders will participate in an on-call rotation with potential for after-hours overtime with limited notice.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience:
- Three to five years of experience in two-way radio and wireless communication systems, including hands-on experience with IP networks, switches, routers, and VoIP systems.
- Proficiency in computer use for programming, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of both RF and IP-based communications infrastructure.
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or vocational school in electronics, IT networking, or wireless system repair is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, network troubleshooting, and basic cybersecurity best practices is highly desirable.
- Experience with dispatch consoles, trunked systems, microwave links, RF propagation, and AC/DC power systems.
- Strong understanding of RF and network theory as it relates to wireless communications systems.
Licenses, Certifications:
- A valid driver license and insurability in the state of employment.
- CET, NABER, or CompTIA Network+ certification preferred. Cisco (CCNA) or equivalent IT certifications are a plus.
