Job Description
The Platform Engineer will evaluate, design, and implement technology solutions that advance technology strategies within a specific line of business. As the application owner for third-party, purchased software (Kafka/MSK and Lenses), the incumbent will collaborate closely with vendors to stay informed about upcoming changes, ensure alignment with the technology roadmap, and maintain business continuity and effectiveness. This role requires a deep understanding of the bank s systems, configurations, and evolving business needs. If aligned to an Agile squad, the engineer may also partner with Product Owners to define user stories that drive effective technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and Manage Kafka Clusters:
Design, deploy, and maintain Kafka clusters using Amazon MSK to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
Monitor and Optimize Kafka Performance:
Leverage Lenses to monitor Kafka clusters, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance improvements.
Data Classification and Security:
Implement and manage BigID solutions for data classification across AWS S3 buckets, RDS instances, and on-premises databases, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with data engineers, software developers, and security teams to integrate and optimize data workflows.
Automation:
Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) to streamline data processing and platform management tasks.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for complex platform issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum reliability.
Continuous Improvement:
Research and implement best practices, staying current with emerging technologies in data management, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 8 years in platform engineering or a related field, with significant hands-on experience managing Kafka clusters.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in Amazon MSK, and Lenses.
Strong scripting experience (Python, Bash, etc.).
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
