Description

Are you driven to shape the future of space warfighting through advanced threat understanding, multi-domain operations, capabilities integration and intelligence-led innovation?

Do you thrive in high-impact environments where your leadership directly influences U.S. national security in the space domain?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a Strategic Aerospace Engineer to join our amazing team in the Space Control Group, part of the National Security Space Mission Area in the Space Exploration Sector. Join a team of motivated and creative, mission focused engineers and scientists who bring both operational experience and technical ability. We provide vital threat engineering, strategic analysis and operational testing supporting the development of nationally important strategic space capabilities for the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. As a member of our team, you will work with engineers, scientists, and operations analysts in development of technical analysis efforts, leveraging threat intelligence, for several critical strategic programs. We are passionate about making critical contributions to these critically important programs, and you will be a key part of our success.

Job Summary: Produce technical assessments by performing, integrating and communicating analyses to support USSPACECOM planning and decision making. Operate as an integral member of the USSPACECOM staff, the DoD science and technology (S&T) enterprise, and representative of APL National Security Space Mission Area.

As a Strategic Systems Program Protection Engineer you will...
  1. Innovate, propose, administer, and provide technical and study direction. STAG studies are commisioned at the direction of USSPACECOM leaders. Lead multi-service and multi-CCMD analyses of effects across multiple domains that affect or are affected by USSPACECOM's Area of Responsibility.
  2. Perform as an on-site project manager, technical advisor and contributor for sponsored studies, and analyses efforts. Maintain strong relationships with the command staff, components, and other space analysis organizations to leverage their results and capabilities rapidly and effectively. Leverage the expertise and resources of APL and other space analysis organizations to improve efficiency and the consistency of foundational analyses across the space warfighting enterprise.
  3. Be familiar with command structure, service components, and local military commands as well as their personnel, organizational relationships, battle rhythms and internal task management processes in order to execute study tasking and provide liaison services to APL executives, managers and technical staff. Make periodic laboratory visits to present theater challenges and opportunities to laboratory IRaD committees, mission area executives and program and line management.

Special Working Conditions: In addition to Colorado Springs, CO the position requires periodic travel to JHU/APL Laurel, MD. Visits to other facilities, research institutions and test venues may also be required. Normal work location is within a government closed area.
