Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager within our Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA) business to support the Compass Call and U2 Program Areas.

Primary tasks will include:
  • Staffing current and projected hardware engineering needs, providing oversight of program execution relative to hardware content, and ensuring engineering processes are being adhered to throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Working closely with our project engineering leads and hardware managers to ensure overall success of our programs.
  • Manage hardware program performance metrics and clearly communicate program status to internal customers and senior leadership.
  • Acquire and grow hardware-engineering staff with the skills and capabilities to meet the demands of projects through hiring, staff development/training, mentoring, and personal growth opportunities.
  • Inspire an engineering culture of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), Design To Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) focused on designing out defects prior to production.
  • Self-Starter who will Lead staff with a people first mentality through open communication and flow down, career development and training, constructive employee feedback, and safe and inclusive environment
  • Oversee lifecycle phases including, but are not limited to, design development, verification, integration, and production support.
  • This role could be described as "Player-Coach" as the Manager is expected to spend at least two-thirds of their time supporting the Compass Call Program with managing technical efforts, hands on problem solving, supporting bid and proposal activities; while one-third will be supervising their team
Candidate must demonstrate strong technical aptitude and leadership skills. Experience with leading multi-disciplined engineering teams through one or more phases of the hardware product lifecycle is important, as the individual will be in a position to influence program execution and mentor hardware leads.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Partner with Project Technical Leads to determine "right person right job", particularly for critical skills
  • Working with Project Technical Leads to determine program staffing needs
  • Collaborate with Engineering Talent Leads to fill program staffing requirements and develop a talent pipeline which aligns with current and future program needs
  • Build and influence hardware program teams
  • Provide discipline oversight to program execution
  • Serve as design review chair for development programs to ensure reviews meet hardware guidelines, and to ensure appropriate subject matter experts are engaged
  • Review and approve hardware bids and proposals
  • Proactively work program staffing needs, sometimes independent of project technical leads
  • Support proposal efforts to capture new business
  • Regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in technical areas. Exercise considerable judgment in determining team objectives based on project requirements. Lead by example.
  • Provide inputs on personnel performance.
  • Supervise a team of 10 Hardware engineers

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • DOD Security Clearance.
  • 10+ years' applicable experience.
  • Ability to drive activities to closure.
  • Experience leading multidiscipline engineering teams.
  • Experience with the design, build, integration and/or test of complex electronic systems.
  • Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability.
  • Experience presenting technical information to program teams and/or customers.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Preferred Skills
  • Active DOD Security Clearance.
  • Strong understanding of Product Lifecycle management processes.
  • Demonstrated success managing all hardware engineering aspects of requirements definition, design, integration, test and delivery of complex Electronic Warfare systems.
  • Prior Project Engineer / Control Account Manager (CAM) experience, including managing earned value metrics, such as Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
  • Proficiency using MS Office and MS Project.
  • Engineering background to better understand, assign, and resolve design problems.
  • Knowledge of the Compass Call platform, mission, and products.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
