Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (OT/Operational Technology)
Location: Tampa, FL (onsite)
Fulltime, Permanent
Pay: $85k-$140k/yr


Position Concept


The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity program. This role ensures the security and integrity of OT systems by translating regulatory requirements and industry standards (NERC CIP, NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, etc.) into actionable security controls, processes, and procedures. The Senior Engineer will oversee vulnerability management, incident response, threat analysis, and compliance activities while mentoring junior analysts, leading cross-departmental IT/OT collaboration, and guiding long-term cybersecurity strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities




  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of OT cybersecurity standards, frameworks, and controls.


  • Assess and remediate vulnerabilities within OT environments, including network architecture, system configuration, and external connections.


  • Conduct continuous monitoring of threat landscape, CVEs, and industry intelligence, applying findings to OT systems.


  • Translate regulatory and industry cybersecurity standards (NERC, NIST, SOX, PCI, etc.) into systemic and procedural solutions.


  • Maintain and improve the OT cybersecurity program to ensure ongoing compliance with internal and external audits.


  • Oversee asset inventory management, criticality assessments, and remediation planning.


  • Lead incident response, forensic investigations, and root cause analysis for OT-related cybersecurity events.


  • Provide technical leadership in penetration testing, malware analysis, and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to automate security processes.


  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior analysts and engineers.


  • Collaborate with IT, engineering, and business stakeholders to align OT cybersecurity with organizational goals.


  • Develop management responses to regulatory audits, inquiries, and data requests.


  • Champion cybersecurity awareness and promote adoption of best practices across the organization.


Education




  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.


  • Preferred: Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related IT discipline.


Licenses/Certifications




  • Required: At least one professional Information Security certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GIAC, GICSP, CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, etc.) or ability to obtain within one year of hire.


  • Preferred: Multiple advanced certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, CEH, OSCP, GPEN, GCIH, GCIA, or equivalent.


Experience




  • Required: Related cybersecurity, OT, IT, or industrial automation experience (networking, telecommunications, hardware, or software).


  • Preferred: Prior experience leading cybersecurity programs, managing compliance audits, and mentoring technical teams.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities




  • Deep expertise in OT cybersecurity frameworks and regulatory requirements (NERC CIP, NIST CSF, SOX, PCI).


  • Strong knowledge of OT/IT integration, industrial automation systems (ABB, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Emerson, GE), and network architecture.


  • Advanced proficiency with security technologies: Firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, Endpoint Security, Threat Prevention, DLP, File Integrity Monitoring, Web/Application Filtering, Email Filtering.


  • Expertise in forensic analysis, incident detection, and malware/packet analysis.


  • Proficiency in penetration testing, vulnerability management, and secure configuration practices.


  • Advanced scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell).


  • Strong analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills.


  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), with the ability to convey complex cybersecurity concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.


  • Ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and foster cross-functional collaboration.
