Job Title: Senior FinOps Business Analyst
Location: Remote
Job Type: Contract
Job Summary:
As a Senior Business Analyst specializing in FinOps, you will serve as the critical link between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating complex business needs into clear requirements that drive successful cloud cost optimization initiatives. You'll leverage analytical expertise to identify cost-saving opportunities, solve resource allocation problems, and ensure our solutions deliver measurable financial value to our clients. This role will specifically support our client in their AWS FinOps transformation journey.
Travel Requirements:
In this role you will be expected to travel up to 25%. This role will be a remote work situation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct stakeholder interviews and facilitate workshops to identify business problems and opportunities related to cloud cost management
- Create clear, comprehensive business requirements documents and user stories for FinOps initiatives
- Develop process maps, workflow diagrams, and business models using tools like Miro, Lucid, and Visio to visualize cloud resource allocation
- Examine client AWS environments and collect requirements for applications and services hosted on AWS
- Offer guidance on managing AWS architecture based on AWS Well-Architected Framework and FinOps best practices
- Collaborate on Terraform Configuration Design to support FinOps needs
- Review current FinOps data and team recommendations to establish baselines
- Analyze existing methods used to communicate costs to application and technology owners
- Evaluate current approaches for anomaly detection, reporting, and management
- Develop recommendations for improving team ownership of cloud costs and cost changes
- Recommend changes to operational tracking and management of anomalies for faster detection and resolution
- Advise on and utilize cost optimization platforms and strategies to collect additional data and metrics
- Document and prioritize opportunities for cost optimization in client environments
- Support FinOps reporting for AWS environments
- Evaluate current approaches for developing cloud budgets and forecasts
- Explore and recommend alternative approaches to enhance forecasting efficiency
- Discover and document FinOps-relevant issues in AWS services and cost exploration platforms
- Support development and evaluation of infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
- Assist in creating, configuring, implementing, and testing remediations in AWS Portal
- Help introduce fit-for-form FinOps maturity models - mapping current state and defining target states
- Draft FinOps capability personas across AppDevs, IT leaders, and business stakeholders
- Support development of FinOps 101 training materials to foster widespread adoption
- Produce comprehensive "as-built" technical documentation covering all modifications and identified artifacts
- Build strong relationships with client stakeholders at all organizational levels
- Translate technical concepts into business terms for stakeholders
- Facilitate decision-making by presenting options with clear business impacts
- Bridge communication gaps between business and technical teams
Required Skills:
- Strong analytical thinking with ability to decompose complex cloud cost problems into manageable components
- Excellence in requirements elicitation, documentation, and management
- Proficiency in process modeling, data modeling, and use case development
- Experience with requirements management tools (JIRA, Azure DevOps, etc.)
- Expertise in visualization tools (Miro, Lucid, Visio) to create clear business models
- Understanding of AWS services, pricing models, and cost optimization strategies
- Knowledge of FinOps principles and practices
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code concepts and tools, particularly Terraform
- Experience with cloud cost management and optimization platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts
- Strong facilitation skills for leading workshops and collaborative sessions
- Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies
- Ability to work effectively with remote and distributed teams

- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Cloud Practitioner)
- FinOps Foundation certification
- Experience with data analysis tools and techniques to support cloud cost optimization
- Knowledge of change management principles to support solution adoption
- Experience with product thinking approaches and customer-centered design

- Knowledge of reserved instances, savings plans, and spot instance strategies
- Ability to identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities during analysis activities
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor s degree in business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in business analysis
- Experience working on complex, enterprise-scale cloud projects
- At least 2+ years of experience with AWS environments
- Prior consulting experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
- Track record of successful requirements delivery for technology solutions
- Experience with cloud cost optimization initiatives is highly desirable
