Job Title: Operator II (Helpdesk Support)

Location: Martinez, CA (100% Onsite)

Duration: 6 months subject to extension

Job Description -

SCHEDULE IMPORTANT: Currently their days off would be Sat/Sun until July when they will change to Wed/Thu. The hours are 11:30 pm 8:00 am CST .

Knowledge of:

  • Operational characteristics of data processing and associated peripheral equipment.
  • Principles of computer system operation and monitoring
  • Principles of computer report preparation and batch job processing
  • Methods and techniques used to troubleshoot various computer operation problems.

Ability to:

  • Set up and operate applicable data processing and peripheral equipment.
  • Conduct system and database back-ups on a routine basis.
  • Run batch programs according to established guidelines.
  • Respond to questions and inquiries from system users.
  • Learn methods and techniques of training.
  • Learn to provide training to lower-level computer operations staff.

TYPICAL TASKS:


Sets up, monitors and operates various data processing devices including printers, tape and disk drives, tape cleaners, personal computers, network computers, computer consoles and terminals.

  • Collects batch jobs for daily processing.
  • Runs programs in accordance with established schedules.
  • Documents all jobs completed and ensures accuracy and quality of completed jobs.
  • Loads forms and paper stock into printers to ensure accurate printing.
  • Prints, bursts and distributes customer bills.
  • Reviews all printed output for quality and accuracy and clears paper jams.
  • Conducts system and database back-ups on a routine basis, files back-up tapes and maintains the tape library.
  • Drives to operational locations to change tapes on-site and rotate medium between storage sites.
  • Research manuals and related documentation to troubleshoot operational difficulty with the computer system.
  • Reviews console logs for errors and take corrective actions.


  • Responds to questions and inquiries from system users regarding hardware or software application problems.
  • Maintains and cleans peripheral equipment.
  • Cleans tape drives and printers, vacuums printers and changes ribbons and toner.
  • Monitors inventory of forms and computer supplies
  • Provides support to computer programming staff and runs and prints programmers test jobs.
  • Provides training for new computer operations staff and trainees.
  • May analyze, design, troubleshoot and document various programs and macros using appropriate languages.
  • May consult with vendors to resolve complex problems
