Overview:
We are seeking experienced software engineers with strong expertise in C and COBOL to support and enhance our credit card issuing and authorization platform. This legacy system plays a critical role in transaction processing and requires hands-on maintenance, bug fixing, and occasional new development. The ideal candidates will be proactive, collaborative, and open to introducing modern development best practices into a mature codebase.
Platform Overview:
HP Non-Stop (formerly Tandem): Handles transaction authorizations and processing
o Languages: C and COBOL
Windows Application:
o Languages: C# (some Java)
o Database: Microsoft SQL Server
Team Dynamics:
The current team is strong on the Windows application side and does not require support there.
Limited internal expertise in C and COBOL; existing team is piecing together knowledge post-departure of original SMEs.
Two underperforming resources with COBOL knowledge are available for knowledge transfer.
Looking to onboard two senior-level engineers (L3 and L4) to take ownership of the HP Non-Stop side of the application.
Responsibilities:
Learn and understand the legacy C and COBOL codebase
Collaborate with existing COBOL resources for knowledge transfer
Maintain and enhance the HP Non-Stop platform
Perform bug fixes and support production issues
Contribute to limited new development efforts
Introduce and apply modern development practices to legacy code where feasible
Must-Have Qualifications:
Strong experience in C programming
Solid knowledge of COBOL
Preference for candidates stronger in C if not equally proficient in both
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a legacy environment
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with HP Non-Stop systems
Familiarity with financial transaction processing
Exposure to modernization efforts in legacy systems
