The Data Processing Unit (DPU) team brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance ASIC with the capability to efficiently handle large data streams. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives.

We are looking for a Principal Data Processing Unit Software Engineer - Runtime to join our team and play a critical role in the design and implementation of fundamental new features in the DPU software runtime. You will be responsible for implementing code on various critical paths in the stack, have key input on the design of new features, and leading development and debugging on an exciting and unique platform. You will also collaborate with other engineers across Microsoft to integrate the DPU SW runtime with different software stacks and frameworks. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in design of core features of DPU runtime software, emphasizing servicing paths
  • Implement advanced operating system features focusing on high reliability and low latency to make Azure's cloud the best in the business
  • Collaborate with partner teams to define DPU-based platforms that meet Azure's high standards of reliability, performance, and security

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years technical experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Python, and rust
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years' experience in embedded software development and system design.
  • 3+ years of experience in SW/HW interfaces, simulations, and systems bring-up.
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years technical experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Python, and rust.
  • Proficiency in embedded software development and kernel expertise.
  • Proficient systems design sense.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
