RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in San Diego, CA that is seeking a C++/Network or Cloud Software Manager (DOD).

Summary:
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead high-performing software teams focused on delivering mission-critical solutions. This role combines technical oversight with people-first leadership, ensuring the development of robust, scalable systems that meet demanding operational requirements. You will guide the software development lifecycle, foster team growth, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to translate complex user needs into reliable, secure capabilities.

Duties:
* Mentor and manage a team of software engineers, driving professional development through regular feedback, goal setting, and performance check-ins
* Oversee hiring, staffing plans, and resource allocation to match project needs
* Design, mature, and maintain software development processes
* Lead Agile ceremonies, ensure high-quality code through peer reviews and CI/CD practices, and align with DevSecOps and security requirements
* Collaborate with Systems and Network Engineering to deliver integrated solutions
* Translate user needs into clear, actionable requirements and architectures
* Contribute to proposals, estimates, and statements of work
* Coordinate with program managers to keep development on schedule and aligned with scope and technical goals
* Present technical concepts to customers and partners, participate in technical meetings, and ensure software delivers meaningful capability to the end user

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating advanced technical expertise and proven leadership capabilities
* Proven Technical Leadership - 5+ years of experience leading software teams in a product or systems engineering environment, preferably with real-time or embedded systems
* Mission-Driven Mindset - Passion for supporting national security missions and advancing capabilities through user-focused software design
* Systems Thinking - Ability to translate complex operational requirements into scalable, maintainable software architectures
* Agile Execution - Strong experience managing Agile development cycles, backlogs, and sprint planning within multi-disciplinary teams
* People Development - Demonstrated success managing engineers and fostering career growth while driving accountability and performance
* Cross-Functional Communication - Comfortable collaborating across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to align vision and execution
* Security Conscious - Familiarity with secure software development practices and integration with system accreditation workflows (e.g., RMF, STIGs)
* Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
* Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Nice to Have:
* Experience with DevSecOps pipelines and modern CI/CD tools
* Exposure to tactical networking, distributed systems, or defense-related communications systems
* Previous involvement in proposal writing or government contracting environments

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
