Engineer Outside the Box (Literally): Packaging Engineer - Hybrid Role

A global medical device leader in the Saint Paul, MN, area is looking for an innovative Packaging Engineer to join their R&D team in a hybrid role. Hours & Pay
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Pay: Up to $59.00 per hour (based on experience)
Employment Type: Contract with hybrid flexibility
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative medical device packaging solutions
- Lead packaging initiatives for new product development and sustaining engineering projects
- Create and manage documentation including packaging specifications, test protocols, and validation reports
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements based on data
- Coordinate packaging testing and evaluate the feasibility of processes, equipment, and materials
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global engineering, manufacturing, and clinical stakeholders
- Translate customer needs into clear product and packaging requirements
- Apply ISO 11607, ASTM, ISTA standards, and Quality System principles throughout the development lifecycle

Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering
- Minimum 4 years of Packaging R&D experience, with at least 3 years in medical devices (manufacturing or distribution experience preferred)
- Experience with packaging materials (Tyvek, films, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, etc.)
- Familiarity with packaging process/equipment qualification and design control requirements
- Strong technical writing, data analysis, and project coordination skills
- Skilled in root cause analysis and experimental design using statistical methodologies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across global teams
- Self-motivated, organized, and results-driven
- Able to travel up to 10% as needed
