As a UX Engineer in the Microsoft Discovery team you will play an integral role in defining and executing a new vision for AI-driven science platform development. You will help shape the development of experiences that aim to break new ground in how we interact with agentic AI. We want you to represent the best of what a "10x Designer" can be. As an UX Engineer, you will develop front end designs, specs and user interface systems and partner with engineers to build out fully functioning features. You will generate ideation solutions, identify user needs and defines product designs. You will develop prototypes to meet specific needs, solve challenges and get user feedback. This opportunity will allow you to work with designers to iterate designs during implementation and oversee versioning of tools, including listening to customer needs, driving accessibility and connecting Design and Engineering with tools/platforms. You will liaise between Design and Engineering to deliver product requirements and drive consistency with existing codebases and design systems.

Responsibilities:

  • You will act as liaison and fill in gaps between product, design, and engineering and develop and/or enable user interface prototypes, systems and solutions.
  • You will generate ideation solutions for complex products through design meetings to improve product designs and create clarity for other members of the team and develop functional prototypes to meet needs at hand and solve complex challenges, building on previous work and emphasizing efficiencies.
  • As you interact with Engineering for successful design implementation, you will work to help them ensure "pixel perfect" designs and build and maintain tools and platforms to enable efficiencies across teams.
  • You will ensure the use and adoption of the latest codebases and design systems and gather industry updates to push the acquisition of new systems and communicate up and out to leaders while working with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define and iterate on new and existing product features.
  • You will communicate a compelling, convincing product story to a specific audience, influencing those outside of design.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • E xperience in developing UX for AI systems.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • This is a hybrid position based in Redmond, WA, with an expectation to be on-site at least three days per week to support in-person collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 4+ years experience shipping production-ready code as a result of a collaborative process
  • Experience developing with the latest AI-assisted development tools and systems
UX Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
