Job Title: Backend Developer - eCommerce platforms
Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid)
Duration/Term: Long-Term Contract


Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer with proven experience in eCommerce platforms to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services. This role involves building robust APIs, integrating third-party services (such as payment gateways and inventory systems), and ensuring fast, secure data transactions to deliver a seamless online shopping experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop RESTful and GraphQL APIs to support eCommerce functionalities.
  • Implement integrations with payment processors, CRM, ERP, and shipping providers.
  • Optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure smooth data flow and functionality.
  • Maintain and manage databases, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Write clean, testable code following best practices and participate in code reviews.
  • Monitor backend services and troubleshoot performance and reliability issues.
  • Stay up to date on eCommerce architecture trends, backend technologies, and security standards.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3 5+ years of experience in backend development, preferably in eCommerce settings.
  • Proficiency in Python, Node.js, Java, or similar backend programming languages.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of caching, session management, and API rate limiting.
  • Experience working with eCommerce platforms like Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, or headless commerce solutions is a plus.
  • Understanding of security standards such as PCI-DSS, especially in handling payment data.
